  • The "Self Respect" political ideology, also known as "Self-Respect Movement," originated in India in the 1920s. It was initiated by E.V. Ramasamy, commonly known as Periyar, a social activist and politician. It has been instrumental in shaping the state's political, social, and cultural landscape. The Dravidian political parties, which have been in power in Tamil Nadu for many decades, have their roots in the Self-Respect Movement.

These principles have found resonance in various other social and political movements around the world that seek to challenge and dismantle oppressive systems and structures, and promote equality and human rights.
